It has the nice feature of overlaying different versions of drawings, so very helpful for additional addendums that may have changed things. Keep in mind this does have a bit of a learning curve-can't speak for everyone, but it did take me a bit of getting used to. Recommendations to others considering the product:

It did require a bit of a learning curve, but if you're already familiar with construction software (I was), it's not too difficult to pick up.

Also, sometimes Planswift randomly decides I don't have a license to use it and I have to reenter my company's information. It may just be my company/computer, but opening any archived jobs takes such a long time-perhaps because I have a lot of jobs stored. The cloud integration for our business network is great too, I can easily pull up information from other estimators if I need to. A small bonus as well-a wide range of colors to keep my takeoff easy on the eyes. Folders, subfolders, renaming, easy moving/deleting is all helpful. I often pull dozens of drawings from a bidset, and it can be difficult to keep them all on track. For example for Flooring contractors I would recommend a specialized flooring estimating software.Planswift is generally a good program with great organization. For bigger projects I would On Screen takeoff which I have also reviewed.Īs always, if there is a specialized software available then, it is always good to check it out. Then you have make sure to multiply it correctly in excel. This means you have to create a whole set of new conditions for each unit / area. There is also no easy way to separate the same takeoff condition for different units / areas. Also, you cannot copy a Planswift takeoff from one file to another which makes working in teams a bit more challenging. However beyond a point, it starts getting slow. Planswift is great for estimating residential projects and small to mid size commercial projects. Price – $999 + $199 optional yearly maintenance Best Suited for… However, its popularity is high and if you are looking at outsourcing estimates it is easy to find someone who uses the software. You should always check if the original job conditions have all been deleted and replaced with new ones. Sharing the file is quite easy, but sometimes there is trouble while overwriting the same jobs. You cannot copy takeoffs from one Planswift file to another. Working in teams is not easy with Planswift.
#PLANSWIFT REVIEW HOW TO#
You will still need to learn how to use the template, but that is true for any software. You can also pay someone to help you out. There is a plugin store which you can use to buy templates for your specific trade(s). But paying money can solve your problems (and hence the decent rating). Unlike basic takeoffs, making a custom template has a steep learning curve. Planswift can be customized, but not necessarily by you. If done right you might not even need excel! Ease of Customization – 6.5/10 You can add multiple items to a single condition and do complex calculations within the software. The software has in built, powerful features and templates. To restart you need to hover to the right of the condition and click the button that appears.

The three basic conditions – Count, Liner and Area are all displayed on the home tab. Starting a New job, adding pages and setting the scale is really simple. The ribbon menu at the top displays all the buttons you need to start. Planswift makes it very easy to do a basic takeoff. Intuitiveness / Initial Learning Curve – 9/10
